DNA testing is the standard for human identity testing, and by extension, for paternity, sibling, grandparent, avuncular, twin zygosity and Y-str male lineage DNA comparisons. As much as it would be helpful if DNA testing were regulated, the fact remains that there is a great deal of variation in the processing of DNA tests from lab to lab.
Many laboratories use outdated methods and test a limited amount of markers, some as few as 6 or 8 markers. Bio-Gene DNA Testing insists on a higher number of markers than the industry standard as this provides for an increased accuracy of your DNA test results.

A lady contacted me on Facebook and told me I was the father of her 18 year old daughter. I’m married and have a family now, and this seemed so random. Anyway, we took a DNA test that we bought at a drugstore (and ended up paying a lot more than what we were led to believe!) and it came back that I matched on 14 different locatons with the girl and was her father. I accepted this as being true but over the next year when we talked things just didn’t seem right.
I contacted Bio-Gene DNA and they explained why testing more markers is important. The girl agreed to another test using 24 markers and we only matched on 18 which meant I could not be her real father. This was a relief!
She then tested another man her mother suggested and found out he was her true father using the same test from Bio-Gene.
I would never suggest using a low end test if you want a true and accurate paternity result.
Why the difference between laboratory standards? It usually comes down to a financial bottom line for the lab doing the testing. It can be much faster, and easier, to run a lower marker test especially if the results are only examined once and the results are not compared with a second test. The genetic profiles may also be conducted by uncertified students who are part time to cut administrative costs.
No matter how much a DNA test costs, statistically a person cannot get the most reliable result from a small number of genetic markers. The most reliable and accurate DNA test results can be obtained from laboratories who perform no less than 25 genetic markers testing for paternity and relationship determination.
Our laboratories perform DNA testing with these higher standards by using the same technology as law enforcement agencies do for DNA evidence, but also by expanding way beyond this minimum level of determining probability. The more markers from two or more individuals that are being compared, the more precisely the lab can determine whether they could be related.
Why? All humans share 99.9% of the same genetic code, and because we share so much common DNA, it is possible for random people to match (or in some cases not match) when testing a smaller number of genetic markers because we are so similar. By testing more alleles, the chances of random matching or exclusion are virtually eliminated, thereby giving us more conclusive and reliable results.
Paternity and family relationship testing is a combination of identifying DNA markers and performing statistical calculations regarding the probability of inheritance of these markers, simple logic tells us the more DNA markers tested, the greater the precision of the test.
No matter what choice you make concerning your DNA testing laboratory, it is important to remember that price alone should not be the sole reason to “shop” for a paternity or family relationship DNA test. The number of markers being tested is the most crucial element, and second is the patient support and education services offered. Does the person you speak with care more about your credit card number than making certain you have an understanding of how testing works to make an informed decision?
At Bio-Gene DNA we are interested in more than making certain that the testing is performed. We want to make certain that the DNA testing service you order is appropriate for your needs, even if that means referring you to another lab that may meet your needs better. You can also rest assured that you have a complete understanding of the results once they are delivered to you.
Discover the truth through DNA science and technology. These are LIFE CHANGING results. Make sure you choose the most reliable testing available.
