Our legal DNA tests determine if two or more people are related with statistical probability and specific documentation that is court admissible.
We specialize in the following AABB accredited legal DNA tests:
Legal Sibling DNA Testing
Legal Grandparent DNA Testing
Legal Avuncular DNA Tests
Legal Maternity DNA Testing
All DNA tests performed for use by a government agency, or in a court case require a specialized collection process, a legal chain of custody for the DNA samples, and testing in an AABB accredited laboratory.
Legal Relationship DNA Collections
The new 2018 AABB requirements for legal DNA collections require that the legal DNA kit not be in the possession of any party testing at any time. The new requirements also state that the person doing the collection must meet one of the following criteria: have performed DNA collections for at least one year; have receieved web-based training from the AABB for relationship collections; have been trained either in person or with web based training from a DNA testing laboratory. Bio-Gene DNA provides training through our testing lab for anyone who wants to receive this training to perform a collection for a current case. There is NO COST to this training
Bio-Gene DNA will send a legal DNA kit to a witness/third party collector of your choice.
A legal relationship DNA test is not difficult to perform. A Bio-Gene DNA Legal Kit allows the option of having each person whose DNA needs to be collected schedule a time that is easiest for them. It is not necessary for each person to test at the same time, and people in different locations can have a legal DNA test done, as long as all instructions are followed. We know that work schedules and life activities do not stop because a legal paternity test is needed. The entire process is described below.
-The sample collection process must be witnessed by an unrelated witness (such as your physician, your lawyer, a notary, clergy, or any third party not related to you and who does not have an interest in the outcome of the testing). If they are not certified DNA collectors, Bio-Gene DNA can provide free web based training as a Certified DNA Collector to the person who will be the witness to the collection or the person doing the collection;
-The witness must verify the identity of those whom are testing by confirming legal identification (e.g. driver’s license, birth certificate, Social Security card, passport, etc.);
-The witness must sign the completed chain-of-custody witness document provided in the kit as a witness to the collection;
-The witness must seal the DNA specimens in the container provided in the kit, sign the security seal, and mail the samples directly to the laboratory for testing.
Bio-Gene DNA will provide a legal collection kit to the closest collection center based on the zip code(s) of those being tested.
We will provide you the name and location of the collection center when the collection kit is mailed out. We cannot guarantee a collection center in every city, but we do work with a collection netword of over 3,500 certified DNA collectors within the USA. If we cannot provide a collection center within 30 miles of your zip code, we will contact you with other options prior to sending the kit. Once the collection center has the kit, you will be notified to contact them for an appointment. Each collector is independent and may charge a small collection fee. You will be responsible for paying the collection fee directly to the person doing the collection. Currently the national average is $25 for the collection, however you will need to determine the exact fee prior to having your collection performed.
