What Is A Vermont Approved Avuncular DNA Test?

The purpose of this sort of genetic examination is to discover paternity (in most cases) when the alledged biological father is not feasable for DNA testing to determine if a child is the niece or nephew of a possible aunt or uncle. If the result is positive, this would indicate that their brother is the father of the child(ren). Each state has distinctive laws regarding paternity, and what tests are allowed. A Home Avuncular Test Kit In Vermont Has No Regulations, Unlike Some Other States.

An aunt or uncle DNA test can be performed for either personal knowledge, or for judicial or other other legal reasons. There is no change in the DNA report in Vermont, due to the strict criteria employed by our partner AABB accredited laboratory. DNA reports from home kits may not be accepted in a judicial setting however, because there is no nonpartisan demonstation of whose DNA was contributed. When a chain-of-custody DNA test is done, the DNA samples are collected by a competent professional collector who can verify the identity of those being tested. Most of the time when an avuncular test is done, it is for personal knowledge information. A legal avuncular test will be needed, however, apply for Social Security benefits for a child, have a probate issue, or for immigration reasons. It also may be of interest to know that the I.R.S. has been requiring some people to prove the relationship of their dependents by the use of DNA testing.

The DNA results generated by an aunt or uncle DNA test will show the probability of relationship. As an example of comparing this test to other relationship DNA studies, siblings share 50% of their DNA, and a niece or nephew share approximately 25% of their DNA with their aunt or uncle. Our AABB accredited partner laboratory will begin the DNA test looking at 24 genetic markers. If a strong enough finding cannot be determined, your test will be upgraded to test additional markers, up to 46, as the lab deems necessary. There is no added cost for the upgrade as we just want to ensure your results are the strongest possible.

How Is The DNA Collected?
