Sibling Test – Affordable and 100% Accurate
Our Sibling DNA Test includes two possible Full or Half siblings, one mother (optional), an at home sibling DNA kit, and results in just 2 business days. Our test results are 100% accurate.
A DNA sibling test determines the statistical probability that two or more persons are or are not biologically related as brothers and/or full or half sisters. This test is normally performed when a standard paternity test is not possible. Our sibling test is the best way to confirm paternity through the alleged father’s suspected children. Our paternity test with siblings results are accurate in the findings from the DNA test.
Our sibling DNA test is the best way to confirm, or eliminate, Ancestry.com ®, 23andMe.com ®, or MyHeritage.com’s ® genealogy report information. These heritage and ancestry companies use a limited database to indicate that you may have found a surprise sibling, but most importantly our testing can prove or disprove the findings in almost every case.
Our at home sibling test is 1,000 times more powerful than standard laboratory or drugstore DNA testing kits!
Our private home sibling test uses 24 markers instead of the standard 16 markers, and if we do not have a strong enough result, the test will be upgraded automatically to examine up to 46 genetic markers, when that number is applicable . Unlike some other companies, there is no additional cost to you for any upgrades that are necessary. This makes our sibling DNA testing the most accurate sibling DNA test available.
Journey Genetic Testing’s home sibling test uses the same standards, and produces the same type of results as our AABB accredited legal sibling test. We provide this service at the lowest possible cost to help as many people as possible learn the truth.
There are two types of sibling DNA test kits available depending on your situation.
Sibling DNA Test – Full Siblings
What makes two children full-siblings or half-siblings is how much genetic information, or DNA, they share. Each of us gets half our DNA from our mother and half from our father. Full siblings have the same mother and the same father. These siblings get all of their genetic information from the same two people, and they share 50% of the same DNA.
Half Sibling Test – Half Siblings
Half siblings only share DNA from one parent, usually their biological father, and share about 25% of the same DNA. Each person testing as a half sibling has a different mother. A half sibling shares the same percentage of DNA with their brother or sister as with a grandparent, or an aunt or uncle. First cousins share just 12.5% of the same DNA, second cousins 6.125%, etc. Due to the high amount of DNA shared between half siblings and cousins, DNA testing cannot be used for sibling testing among known cousins.
Sibling DNA Test FAQ’s
Sibling DNA test result are shown as a probability percentage indicating if the genetic profiles obtained can validate a relationship existing or not. Result that show a 91% or higher probability are considered conclusive evidence that the relationship (full or half siblings) exists, or less than a 9% probability determines that the genetic evidence does not support the relationship existing.
You can be certain that just because we have lower prices, that the quality of our testing service is the highest available in consumer testing.
Our Mission Statement as a company is to provide the most accurate DNA testing, at the lowest cost, to as many people as possible because we believe we have a responsibility to help people learn the truth without "breaking the bank." We accomplish this by working with a much smaller margin of profit over thousands of tests each each. We would rather do more tests at a lower cost that take advantage of those needing to have these life changing answers.
Sibling test prices, depending on the company, can run between $400 and $600. We don't believe this is in the best interest of the consumer. This is also why all of our pricing for our services are provided on our order form, and there are no hidden charges. When looking at the total cost of the service, be sure to compare the cost for additional kits, additional services, upgraded tests, etc. Compare that with the processing time, and if the lab performing the testing is AABB accredited.
Yes! It is possible to have a DNA "indirect paternity test" without the father's direct involvement by using possible or known siblings.
When it is known that both siblings have the same biological mother, then a Full Siblings vs. Half Siblings test should be done. In these sibling tests, the DNA of two individuals with the same biological mother is compared to determine the likelihood that they have the same biological father.
If you know that both suspected siblings do not have the same mother, you would want to order a Half Siblings vs. Unrelated DNA test to show that the siblings either share the same father or are not half siblings.
A mother's DNA may help provide a stronger result in some cases, and there is no charge for the mother's DNA if you include it when the samples are sent in prior to testing.
One of the questions we're sometimes asked is whether or not a sibling test can distinguish between brothers who are both possible fathers.
The answer is "Yes" in almost every situation. A sibling DNA test can determine which brother is the biological father of a child, if you include the DNA of the mother. Every child has genetic contributions (46 chromosomes) 23 chromosomes from the mother and 23 chromosomes from the father.
No, however it may help to add a mother's DNA in a small number of cases. Each parent (mother and father) contributes 50% of their DNA to their children. When one parent submits a sample for testing, it allows the lab to "subtract out" that parent's DNA profile and focus only on the remaining parent's contribution.
If you are seeking to determine if your share the same biological father, the mother's DNA may be helpful for a stronger result. 98%* of our cases arrive at a conclusive result without the mother's DNA. There is no additional cost to add one mother's DNA at the time of the original order. If you are unable to add the mother's DNA, it may be necessary for our lab to test additional markers. This service is provided as a courtesy upgrade and no additional fees are charged when this is needed.
Yes, our DNA test can prove half siblings. In fact, DNA testing is the most scientific and accurate way to prove that two or more individuals are biologically related. Half-siblings share only one biological parent, either the mother or father.
One Of The People I Want To Test Lives In A Different City Or State. Can You Send A Test To Them Also?
Yes! If any of those participating live at different addresses, in different cities, or in different states, we can send a DNA collection kit to everyone involved. The kit will have the same case number on it for all those being tested, so they can match them when they arrive at the lab. In order to send a second kit to another address simply indicate how many additional kits you need on your order form and enter the address for the kits to be shipped to in the pop-up fields provided.
We do offer legal sibling testing which is valid in cases for child support, parenting time, birth certificate name changes, probate, and wills, as well as many other legal circumstances. A legally admissible DNA test requires some extra steps, however the final results will be the same.
Once the lab has all of the samples available for sibling testing, we will have the results for you in 2 business day in almost every single case. All testing is performed twice, to validate the findings. We do not charge any extra fees for this service.
It depends. Since half siblings share 25% of the same DNA, and first cousins share 12.5%. Depending on if a mother's DNA is available to test as well, there may be other testing options that would give stronger results. In these situations we encourage you to talk with one of our Genetic Consultants at 1-855-362-5224, or email us at email@example.com and we can offer advice on your unique situation.
Yes! Some commonly used items that are not a mouth swab include ear wax, hair (must have the root ball attached), mucous on a tissue, finger or toe nail clippings, and toothbrushes. You can learn more about these "non-standard" DNA samples by clicking on Alternative DNA Samples, or call us a 1-855-362-5224.

Sibling Testing DNA Collection
Sibling DNA Test Kit
Our DNA testing kits for siblings include the following: USPS Priority shipping of the kit to you, detailed step-by-step instructions, sterile buccal swabs for each person taking the sibling test, collection envelopes, a sibling analysis form, and a prepaid overnight FedEx label and envelope (USA only for prepaid label).
We can send DNA sibling kits to multiple addresses. When ordering, select how many kits you need (one per address is recommended if you cannot get together to do your DNA collection). You will be able to list the names and addresses to send the kits to on the order form. They are each coded with the same case number to be matched in the lab. Each additional kit will be sent USPS Priority mail and include all collection materials and a prepaid return label (USA addresses only).
Collecting a Sibling DNA Sample
The most accurate method to obtain the necessary sibling DNA sample is to use a mouth swab, often referred to as a “buccal” swab, which is very similar to a “Q-tip” cotton swab, The swabs are rubbed on the inside cheeks of the mouth for each sibling (and the mother, if testing) for about 15 – 30 second per side. It is painless and quick.
Your at home sibling DNA test kit will have detailed step-by-step instructions on how to collect your swab sample. You can also read more about how to take a home DNA test by going to How To Collect A DNA Sample At Home.
You Can Do A Sibling Test Using Something Other Than A Mouth Swab
If it is not possible to get a mouth swab sample voluntarily, or if you wish to have sibling DNA testing done in a more discreet manner, we are able to test items other than a mouth swab. These kind of items are known as non-standard, or alternative, DNA samples. This means you can test hair, a toothbrush, or many other things for DNA at a reasonable additional cost. To learn more about alternative DNA samples, please CLICK HERE.
Discreet sibling DNA testing do not require to obtain consent for testing the alternative DNA samples being submitted. Results are only provided to the person who orders the test, unless specific written instructions to release the test results to other individuals is provided to us.
Make Your Own DNA Kit (MYOK)
All orders include a DNA collection kit sent to the designated address on the order form. We understand that you may be in a situation where you do not want anything being mailed to you, to allow additional privacy.
Journey Genetic Testing allows you the option to make your own testing kit when collecting and returning DNA samples to us. This option can save money on shipping a DNA kit to you, as well as save you time as you can ship directly to us without waiting for the testing kit to arrive.
To choose this option please select the “Make My Own Kit” option on the order form for the particular test you are seeking.
Upon finalization of your order (during regular business hours) you will be e-mailed a submission letter with your unique Journey Genetic Testing case number and the address for mailing your samples. The processing of the samples is conducted in the same time frame as if you used one of our kits – in as little as 1-2 business days for paternity, maternity, sibling, grandparent, avuncular, and twin zygosity tests!
Using the MYOK is suggested for alternative DNA samples.
Non-standard samples being submitted must fit into a standard envelope. If necessary please trim the item to fit (for example a hat band, a piece of clothing with blood, etc.) into a regular envelope while making certain the specific area to be tested is included.
It is strongly suggested that if you reside outside of the United States and wish to order DNA testing that you use this option as the most cost effective and time efficient method to get the answers you need and deserve.
Please note that we are unable to process any DNA samples without a Journey Genetic Testing case number. Samples that arrive without a case number will be discarded.

Example of Sibling DNA Test Results
We know how important the results of your sibling DNA test is to you. Laboratory processing begins as soon as all DNA samples indicated on your order form arrive at the lab. You will be notified by email that testing is underway. In almost all cases we are able to deliver 100% accurate results in just 1-2 business days.
Full sibling DNA test results
In full sibling DNA testing the results are based on a probability, or likelihood, that two or more siblings share the same biological mother and father. According to AABB standards, a conclusive range is a 90.9% or greater (all the way to 99.99%) probability of the tested relationship. Each sibling test result we do varies in the percentages listed, as no two siblings share the exact same DNA (except identical twins).
When the percentage derived from the laboratory shows a 9.0% or lower probability of the relationship (the lowest being 0%), the results show that the relationship of full siblingship is not supported by the genetic evidence from the DNA samples, so the likelihood that a half sibling relationship exists between the two siblings would be the finding.
Half sibling DNA test results
Half sibling DNA testing also has the results are based on a likelihood that two or more siblings share either a biological mother (maternal half siblingship) or a biological father (paternal half siblings). As in full sibling testing, AABB guidelines show a conclusive range is a 90.9% or greater (all the way to 99.99%) probability of the tested relationship. It is uncommon for the final result on an exclusion to be 0% as 99.9% entire human genome is shared by all humans, so a small percentage of probability may show even when the relationship does not exist.
Our Sibling DNA Reviews
I got test results back from an ancestry company but they could not give me solid answers. I spoke with one of your representatives who explained the difference and why I should use a person to person DNA test. Your process was simple and easy to understand, and the results came back in just two days, rather than weeks like the other test I took. Thank you for explaining the difference and now I know for sure. It showed we were not related after all. Very relieved to know for sure. Thank you!
Great job! Everything was fast, and just as you explained it to me. I am glad that I went with your company.
Customer service was excellent
The good reviews along with the clear explanation of services and expertise was the main factors why I choose your company. I was not disappointed
Professional and fast
You have given us the answer we needed. We are full siblings. You have a very good service and price. Thank you so much.
The team helped me clarify information I received from an ancestry test, and know I can be confident that I have a “new” sister
